Moto G6 and G6 Plus: What we know about Moto’s next affordable smartphones

Moto G6 and G6 Plus: Release date, price, specs and all the latest news

Moto, which is now owned by Lenovo, will likely take the covers off a new affordable smartphone star in the Moto G6 at MWC 2018, if recent rumours are to be believed. Here’s everything we know about the handset so far, including the Moto G6’s release date, specs, features and price, as well as a look at its likely big sibling, the Moto G6 Plus.

Lenovo’s Moto G line typically features some of the best budget phones around, so it’s safe to say that savvy shoppers will be watching what the firm unveils at this year’s Mobile World Congress. Here’s an idea of what to expect.

Moto G6  and G6 Plus Design and Specs: What to expect

According to the rumour mill, the Moto G6 will sport a near-identical frame to the Moto X4, the high-end handset intended to revive the Moto X line last year. It’ll be equipped with the same strengthened glass backplate and puck-like camera design, information obtained by Droid-Life claims.

Under the hood, Moto is said to have done some tinkering. The Moto G6 is understood to be armed with a 5.7-inch Full HD+ (18:9) screen, a Snapdragon 350 CPU, 3/4GB of RAM, a dual-camera setup (12MP + 5MP), a 16MP front-facing shooter and a 3000mAh battery cell.

The firm is also rumoured to be working on two other variants: the Moto G6 Play and Moto G6 Plus – with the former tipped to be a stripped back, more affordable version of the standard Moto G6 and the latter a more powerful alternative (on paper, at least).

Droid-Life claims that the Moto G6 Plus features a beefier 5.9-inch Full HD+ (18:9) display, a souped-up Snapdragon 630 CPU, 3/4/6GB of RAM, 32/64GB of storage, a dual-camera configuration (12MP + 5MP) like the Moto G6 and a 16MP selfie shooter.

Little is known about the low-end Moto G6 Play. A somewhat reliable Twitter tipster has reason to believe it will be armed with a Snapdragon 430 CPU and a 4,000mAh battery, which should be good for around 24-hours – but that’s far from confirmed.

Moto G6 and G6 Plus Release Date and Price: When do they come out and what will they cost?

Motorola is expected to take the wraps off the Moto G6, Moto G6 Play and Moto G6 Plus at a dedicated event at MWC 2018 in Barcelona on February 25 – leading many to believe that they’ll hit the shelves in major markets sometime in March.

There’s no solid word on pricing at the moment, though the folks over at Droid-Life expect the Moto G6 to cost £175 ($240) and the Moto G6 Plus to retail for £240 ($330), which rumour-spinner Andri Yatim alleges to have corroborated on February 14.

The Moto G6 Play should retail for around £130 ($190).
