Moto 360 price slashed just days after Apple Watch launch

The Apple Watch launched last Friday, April 24, and the company’s debut wearable is already having a profound effect on the competition.

Having been superseded as arguably the most exciting and desirable smartwatch on the market, Motorola has today slashed the price of the Moto 360.

Having launched alongside a £199.99 price tag last year, the Moto 360 can now be snapped up through the Google Play Store for ‘just’ £159.99.

This £40 discount makes the Android Wear-powered device a full £140 cheaper than the base-level Apple Watch price.

The discount covers all Moto 360 guises, with both the black on black and silver on grey colour schemes dropping in price.

Motorola has yet to give a reason for the first Moto 360 price cut, although it appears fair to assume the move is an effort to capitalise on the interest surrounding the hard-to-come-by Apple Watch.

Motorola is just one of a number of Android Wear device manufacturers looking to close the gap to the already successful Apple Watch.

With total Android Wear sales numbering just 720,000 throughout 2014, early figures have suggested that day one Apple Watch pre-orders exceeded 1 million units in the US alone.

Despite Apple Watch prices starting at £299 for the 38mm Apple Watch Sport, fees quickly rise as you move to different body and strap combinations.

The top-of-the-line 18k gold Apple Watch Edition will set owners back a staggering £13,500.
