More than half of all UK homes now own a tablet
The iPad will never catch on. Why would I want something between my phone and my laptop? What is this device even for? All grumbles banded around just a few short years ago.
Now, however, things are a little different, with new figures revealing that more than half of all UK households have adopted at least one tablet.
The figures, collated by a new Ofcom report, have revealed that 54 per cent of British homes now feature at least one slate, with a massive 71 per cent of five to 15 year olds having access to a tablet at home.
It’s not just household tablets which have taken off either, many family members proudly sport their own slab, according to the study.
It has been suggested that one in three under 15 year-olds have their own tablets, while two thirds of 35 to 54 year-olds (the most prolific tablet owners) have adopted the technology.
She added: “We’re using them to catch up with the news, watch our favourite soaps and keep the kids entertained.”
Despite widespread tablet adoption, smartphones are quickly becoming the UK’s gadget of choice for web browsing, with 59 per cent of adults using their handsets to access the internet at home.

The tablet market’s rapid rise to prominence could have seen the sector already hit saturation point, with iPad sales now lower than in recent years.
Despite the sales slump, Apple’s iPad line remains far and away the dominant tablet collection, with a number of Android slates and Windows machines, such as the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, slowly closing the gap.
