More new Fitbit wearables coming in 2016

Fitbit has revealed that it will be launching further devices in 2016.

The leading fitness tracker maker may have launched two new Fitbit wearables this year already, in the shape of the Fitbit Blaze and the Fitbit Alta, but it isn’t done for 2016.

During the company’s recent earnings call, Fitbit CEO James Park revealed that it would be releasing some “exciting new products as we head into the latter part of the year”.

Given that there are currently eight Fitbit wearables on the market, all offering various combinations of essentially the same thing, some might suggest that “new products” is the last thing the range needs.

The reason Fitbit disagrees is money, somewhat predictably. The company is in better health than expected, with $505.4 million in Q1 revenue representing a 50% increase over the same time last year – and a large part of that is down to its new devices.

Apparently, the Blaze and Alta drove almost 50% of the company’s revenue for the quarter, despite only being available for the final month. “It demonstrates how important it is for us to bring new products to market on a regular basis.” explained Fitbit chief financial officer Bill Zerella (via The Verge).

Indeed, CEO Park outlined the company’s intention to “lower the timeframe in which we release products” in the future.

Here’s hoping the new Fitbit devices headed for market later this year have a few new tricks up their sleeves, or that it intends to replace rather than add to its extensive range.
