Nintendo has announced eight new cover plates for the New Nintendo 3DS will arrive in the UK on April 2.
While Japanese New 3DS owners can choose from over 50 cover plates, us UK consumers can only pick from the pool of 12 that were made available at launch.
However, now Nintendo has confirmed via Twitter that eight more are on their way to the UK and will be available to purchase from April 2.
As you can see from the image above, those new cover plates include your basic solid block colour options as well as awesome Mario mushroom choices. You’ll also be able to get an amazing Pikachu one or a cute Kirby alternative.
April 2 is going to be a big day for the New Nintendo 3DS and not just because of the new cover plate selection. The first New 3DS and New Nintendo 3DS XL exclusive title, Xenoblade Chronicles 3D, is also being released that day.
Sadly, the new cover plates don’t includes the special Xenoblade Chronicles 3D ones available in Japan.
Perhaps they’ll arrive in the next batch of plates released in the UK.
Currently the new cover plates aren’t available to pre-order, but we assume they’ll retail for the same £12.99 RRP as the original dozen.

The New Nintendo 3DS features several enhancements over its predecessor, including the long-awaited C-Stick or secondary analogue stick. You’ll also find it has an additional set of shoulder buttons, making the New 3DS more akin to a traditional console controller.
Nintendo also kitted out its latest handheld range with an enhanced processor, better battery life, improved 3D known as Super Stable 3D, and bigger screens.
