Monster intros wireless DNA Pro headphones at CES 2014

Monster has unveiled a wireless version of its popular DNA Pro headphones at CES 2014 that claim ‘near lossless’ quality using no wires.

The new headphones, which will retail for $450 in the US (no UK price yet), are getting on for twice as expensive as the normal wired DNA Pro headphones. For that you get a set with Bluetooth built-in with APT-X for the highest possible quality of wireless audio streaming.

“Designed by Head Monster Noel Lee, Pure Monster Sound uses Monster’s latest proprietary technologies to offer the full experience of live music with extreme clarity, tight articulation and deep pounding bass that motivates to achieve at the highest level of performance. Pure Monster Sound produces crystal clear phone conversations and unmatched wireless music performance.

So far, so ordinary, but clearly there’s some interesting attention to detail in the design of the DNA Pro WIRELESS that justifies the huge price hike. The headphones fold and there are sensors in the hinge to detect them opening and closing that will automatically power the headphones on/off and toggle the Bluetooth.

That’s not an end to the sensors, however, as there’s also a sensor in the earcup that activates the active noise cancelling when you put the headphones on. Like most wireless headphones, there’s also a ‘USB Direct’ wired mode so you can use the DNA Pro WIRELESS without battery power.

There’s no word on a UK release yet.
