Three years on from unveiling the original and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars on Indiegogo, Misfit has introduced the Shine 2.
Hot on the heels of the announcement of its swim-friendly Speedo Shine, Misfit has shifted its focus on the jewel in its fitness tracking crown, bringing it line with its closest competitors by adding a host of new features.
While it maintains the same sleek, all-metal aluminium body, the Shine 2 is now slimmer at 8mm thick, and 3.3mm at its edge making it as slender as the Misfit Flash. It still has that 12 LED light display although this time, it has the ability to change through over 6 million potential colours to alert you to the different modes.
On the surface, Misfit promises improvements too, adding the new enhanced touch technology it has already introduced for the original Shine. This should make taps and touches on the Shine 2 more sensitive and accurate all without coming at the expense of the same six month battery life you get with the original.
The Shine 2 will still offer the same activity tracking including sleep monitoring and the ability to tag activities like football, yoga or swimming. Prospective owners can expect an improvement in accuracy with the pretty standard 3-axis accelerometer now combined with a magnetometer to widen the field of motion that can now be tracked.
Misfit is, of course, looking at its trackers to do more than tracking these days, and will also be introducing Misfit Link support just as it has for its Flash and Flash Link devices. That means you can pair it with the Link app and use the Shine 2 to control your music, take a selfie or control smart home devices with IFTTT support.

Other notable additions include the promise of faster syncing with your smartphone thanks to the Bluetooth 4.1 support and extended Bluetooth range so you don’t have to keep your phone so close, which is handy if you’re going for a swim.
Users will have your options on how to wear it as the Shine 2 comes packed with a sport band, clasp and action clip to choose from. Misfit says to accept more additional accessories to follow in the future as well.
The Shine 2, which will be available in Carbon Black and Rose Gold, is going to be available to buy from November priced at around $99.99 in the US and £79.99 from Currys.co.uk at the end of November. If you want it straight away, you can head to the Misfit website to grab one.
