Looking to pair your connected life with intelligent living quarters, fitness tracker specialist Misfit has confirmed plans to enter the smart home space.
Having seen success with the wrist-based activity tracker the Misfit Shine, the US start-up has announced its intentions to follow the likes of Nest and Withings in releasing a range of home-based products.
Having recently secured a new round of funding – $40 million from Chinese giant Xiaomi – Misfit co-founder and CEO Sonny Vu has suggested the company will launch multiple smart home devices in 2015, as well as pushing into the “advanced wearables” space.
“People like the stuff that we’ve got, but we need to get more products out, and faster,” Vu said speaking with Re/code.
He added: “If you actually have to wear something 24/7 to get data, it’s kind of a disadvantage.
“
Although Vu has failed to detail exactly what form the company’s first home gadgets will take, he confirmed that Misfit will launch “several smart home products over the next few quarters”.
Although work on the upcoming products will have started prior to the funding Xiaomi, the substantial backing will help the fledgling company bring its devices to more markets at a faster pace.
Discussing the none-monetary benefits of the deal, Vu stated: “Xiaomi knows how to scale, they understand supply chains.”
Backing up the company’s popular Sine, the Misfit Flash was introduced earlier this year as a £50 fitness monitor.
