Minecraft Xbox One and PS4 titles to land in August

Minecraft is going next-gen, with the indie gaming sensation to launch for the Xbox One and PS4 in August.

Having captured gamers’ imaginations on a range of platforms to date, Minecraft will now hit Microsoft and Sony’s latest console offerings this summer following minor delays.

In an official statement, the game’s developers have revealed that “Minecraft: Xbox One Edition will be release on Xbox Live Marketplace in August.” Similarly, the block-based game will hit the PS4 and Vita for the first time during the same month.

Mojang’s Owen Hill stated: “Apologies for the delay, but putting Minecraft on new consoles is a serious business. People have been using phrases like ‘logistically-speaking,’ ‘infinite terrain’, and ‘platform parity’ for months now.”

Offering early insight into the titles, the Minecraft developers have revealed that both the Xbox One and PS4 editions will bring “significantly bigger worlds and a greater draw distance” than their preceding platforms.

Although the game will set new Xbox One and PS4 owners back $19.99 (£11.87), those who have already purchased the 360 or PS3 Editions will be able to make the next-gen jump for a reduced, $4.99 (£2.96) fee.

Hill added: “We’ve decided that letting current players upgrade for a small fee is the best way to show our appreciation. If you’re a new crafter who’s looking to pick up Minecraft in the next few months – welcome!”
