Minecraft: Story Mode

Nintendo Wii U owners, so often overlooked by game developers, are finally catching-up on happenings in the 8-bit world of Minecraft this week.

The episodic Minecraft: Story Mode, which has been available on other platforms since October 2015, will finally grace the Wii U platform from Thursday January 21 (via Engadget).

While there are already five episodes up for grabs for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, PC, iOS and Android, only Episode 1: The Order of the Stone will arrive on Thursday for Nintendo gamers.

Episodes 2-5 will follow in due course as developers Mojang and Telltale games are offering a $20 season pass for access to the complete set from the Nintendo eShop.

In other Nintendo Wii U-related news, the company has started to, as threatened initially, to delete unpopular levels from the Super Mario Maker community, Kotaku reports.

During the launch period Nintendo had advised: “Please be aware that after a fixed period of time, courses with low popularity will be automatically deleted from the server.

“Nintendo reserves the right to use uploaded courses and related data, either as-is or with alterations, for either commercial or noncommercial purposes without compensation to the uploader.”

Now Nintendo is chucking out those levels and taking measures to ensure they cannot be re-uploaded to the community.

However, the firm has not announced what counts as “unpopular” nor has it revealed what constitutes a “fixed period of time.”

The decision is a blow to those gamers who’ve spent hours building their own levels, regardless of the popularity.

Nintendo is yet to respond to requests for comment.

Do you think it’s fair Nintendo is trimming some of the fat? Or do you think the decision will discourage less experienced course designers to bother in the first place? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
