Minecraft: Pocket Edition finally coming to Windows Phone

Minecraft: Pocket Edition is finally coming to Windows Phone devices, albeit at an unknown date.

It’s been less than a month since Microsoft announced it was buying Minecraft creator Mojang, but the company has now confirmed Minecraft is coming to Windows Phone.

Although there’s no concrete release date for Minecraft: Pocket Edition for Windows Phone, at least gamers with such a device can be safe in the knowledge it’s on its way.

The news came in the form of a tweet from Lead Minecraft Developer Jen Bergensten:
“Yes, Minecraft: Pocket Edition is coming to the Windows Phone! The port runs already but there’s still much to do before any release.”
The announcement was then backed up by Tommaso Checchi, who is one of the Pocket Edition team. He tweeted a picture of the Pocket Edition Live Tile on a Nokia handset.

While there’s no further information on the Windows Phone Edition at the moment, Mojang and Sony recently confirmed the PS Vita Edition would launch digitally on October 15.

The retail version won’t arrive until November 21 though.

If you’ve already got the PS3 Edition you can download the PS Vita version for free, and vice versa.

However, if you just bought the recently released PS4 Edition, you will have to spend another £12.99 to get the PS Vita version as the next-gen version isn’t included in Sony’s cross-buy offer.
