Minecraft is getting five-player, cross-platform multiplayer, in one of the game’s most significant updates.
Microsoft has just announced a major update for Minecraft, known as version 0.12.1 or the Minecraft multiplayer update.
“The upcoming 0.12.1 update is, in a word, awesome,” explained Microsoft in a blog post.
The update will allow up to five players to play co-operatively in a single game provided they are on the same network.
Plus, this multiplayer is also cross-platform compatible, meaning players on the Windows 10 Beta version and Minecraft: Pocket Edition can join up.
Anyone playing exclusively on the Windows 10 beta, five players will also be able to play co-operatively online together, freeing them from the same-network restrictions on the Pocket Edition.

“This is also the biggest update for Minecraft: Pocket Edition to date, bringing a host of highly-requested catch-up features for mobile players,” added Microsoft.
“For starters, you’ll get to enjoy revamped touch controls, controller support, and the controller mapping screen. You’ll also be treated to the same enhanced weather effects that Windows 10 Edition Betaplayers have received, including snow accumulation and directional rain.”
“And in addition to plenty of new goodies to build and potions to brew, you’ll now be able to encounter golems and ocelots, and even explore the Nether. Finally, this update brings the ability to sneak and sprint in Pocket Edition.“
