Minecraft Story Mode

Minecraft is finally coming to the Wii U, but only in the form of Minecraft: Story Mode.

Telltale Games has confirmed that its upcoming adventure series, Minecraft: Story Mode, will be coming to Wii U as well.

This will mark the first occasion that Minecraft has ever appeared on a Nintendo platform.

Mojang's sandbox, world-building game has spread across to a number of devices beyond its more traditional PC and console roots, including the likes of iOS, Android, Windows Phone and Raspberry Pi.

But it's never launched on Wii, Wii U or the 3DS, which we do find rather strange seeing as Nintendo's console users are probably the target audience for Minecraft. And we could see the GamePad and touchscreens being put to good use.

Minecraft: Story Mode is an entirely different proposition from the traditional Minecraft experience.

It's another of Telltale's excellent episodic single-player experiences, where the story adapts to the choices you make.

But this time it's set in the blocky world of Minecraft, rather than The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones or any of the other Telltale partnerships.

This also marks the first time that Minecraft has graced another platform since Microsoft's $2.5 billion purchase of the franchise a year ago.

Since then Microsoft has continued to develop all versions of Minecraft, including those for its competitor's platforms such as the PS4.

A new Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition has also launched, and is available in Beta mode now.
