This week sees the launch of ‘Microsoft Office Live Workspace’ in a free public beta. As the name suggests, it works like an online extension of Office and enables users to access, share and store their documents.
In effect a repost to Google Docs with knobs on, Live Workspace critically blurs the line between online and offline Office work. Documents can be opened and saved directly from Word, Excel and PowerPoint while tasks, contacts and events may be synchronised with Outlook and people can be invited to view, comment on and edit what you upload.
Microsoft even provides space to hold 1,000+ documents which can then be accessed by any computer with a web browser meaning goodbye flash drives for many and a lot of self emailing.
Of course, Live Workspace is very much an extension of Office not a full online replacement – but I suspect it may be the first step…
