Microsoft has announced the release of a new official NHS Windows Phone app called My NHS.

The app allows users to hook into the NHS Choices and Microsoft HealthVault services to access and store personal health information and look up general NHS and health related information.

Microsoft HealthVault provides access to information about medical conditions, medications, immunisation records, local hospitals/clincs and local GP information and lets you track the whole lot for multiple members of your family. Meanwhile NHS Choices also provides reliable general medical information for enhancing your overall medical knowledge.

By using the phone's GPS and Bing Maps, you can find addresses of and directions to your local GP, dentist or hospital, and it also uses the Windows Phone Live Tile interface to good effect: you can pin contact details of local services to the home screen as well as have NHS Choices news appear on the Tile.

Available immediately, it's a free download from the Windows Phone MarketPlace.
