If you’re a Windows 7 or 8.1 user you’ll know the pain of being plagued by constant requests to upgrade to Windows 10.
The Get Windows 10 (GWX) app is essentially a piece of bloatware that constantly prompts users to upgrade to Microsoft’s latest OS, and has been the bane of many Windows adherents who want to hold on to their current operating system.
But, it seems Microsoft has finally got the message, as its latest update removes software related to the Windows 10 free upgrade offer.
The free upgrade offer expired at the end of July, so users will have had some respite from GWX since then.

Now, it seems the software will be completely removed from the Windows operating system, marking the true demise of the notoriously irritating bloatware.
You should be able to get the new update via Windows Update, under optional updates. It’s labelled KB3184143.
A full description, confirming the GWX removal can be found on the Microsoft Support site, which states the update. “removes the Get Windows 10 app and other software related to the Windows 10 free upgrade offer”.
As well as removing the GWX app, the update also gets rid of the Windows 8.1 OOBE modifications to reserve Windows 10 and the Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 SP1 end of free upgrade offer notification.
It seems Microsoft really is bidding farewell to the constant upgrade prodding then – which is good news for us all.
