Microsoft brings OneNote to Android Wear devices

Microsoft has opened up the OneNote application to Android Wear smartwatches, allowing wearers to easily take notes on the fly.

The OneNote for Android app allows users to use voice commands in order to dictate notes to their smartwatch.

Simply saying “Ok Google, take a note” will enable the functionality, with the speech transcribed and saved in the user’s Quick Notes on the regular Android OneNote app.

“One of our primary goals is to help you capture ideas and information in new and innovative ways. Features like Quick Notes, Cortana, and Office Lens have made it easy to preserve those flashes of brilliance and today we’re adding Android Wear watches. Simply install the free OneNote for Android Wear app from the Play Store and start dictating notes to your heart’s desire,” Microsoft wrote on its Office blog.

Elsewhere, Microsoft is also boosting the OneNote app for Apple iPhone and iPad devices.

The update, which requires iOS 8, introduces a new Share extension, which allows users to share content from any other app to OneNote.

That means users can save elements of webpages from Safari, export file attachments, and save photos from the library.

The roll out of the new apps reaffirms Microsoft’s recent commitment to cross-compatibility with its apps.

The new features will help boost the company’s bid to compete with popular digital notebook apps like Evernote, which already have a strong presence and a huge following on all of the major mobile platforms.
