Meizu MX2 unveiled as iPhone mimicking Android smartphone

Meizu has officially unveiled its latest handset in the Meizu MX2, an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smartphone that looks strangely similar to the Apple iPhone 5 and iPod touch.

Meizu, a Chinese OEM specialising in Android devices, has a long history of turning out products that strongly resemble the touchscreen tech coming out of Cupertino, but seems to avoid legal action by keeping its releases confined to the Far East – at least officially.

Anyone from the UK who wants to get his or her hands on a Meizu MX2 Android phone will probably have to find it through an importer, or hop on a plane to China.

Meizu MX2 Specs

The Meizu MX2 looks attractive on paper as well as in its official photos. There’s a 1.6GHz Samsung quad-core processor on board alongside 2GB of RAM, plus an 8-megapixel camera with an integrated LED flash.

Further enhancing the Meizu MX2 specs sheet, a 4.4-inch screen with a 1280 x 800p HD resolution features on the iPhone-esque device.

Meizu MX2 Release Date and Price

Meizu has also fitted the Meizu MX2 with a custom Android user interface that looks to add several unique features to the stock Android experience. The MX2 will hit Chinese stores in mid-December.

Buyers will have a choice between models with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of built-in storage (priced in China at $399, $479 and $639 respectively).

Would you trust a Chinese OEM to deliver a quality Android product, or is the Meizu MX2 just another cheaply-made rip-off of better phones? Share your thoughts on the matter with us via the Trusted Reviews Twitter and Facebook feeds or through the comment boxes below.

If you take a closer look at the phone, you'll certainly find out how well-designed it is. All Android phones feel like iPhones. While Meizu has the reputation in China that it is one of the few companies that have a similar ideal with Apple, to pursue the extreme. Maybe this is because its perfectionist founder really has a similar personality with Jobs.

Own the original MX (and ordered an MX2 today). Looks iphonesque. Definitely is no rip off off the iPhone. A gorgeous piece of kit, rivalling the Galaxy SIII in specs and performance. The MX2 is sure to impress more, using the same OS and similar internals, as well as very similar design
