Meet Instagram’s new logo, and the people who hate it
Instagram has abandoned its classic logo for a new, brighter, more colourful alternative – and the internet is furious.
Gone are the days of Instagram’s stuffy brown-and-cream icon. Instead, the company is pushing purples, oranges, and pinks. This seems odd, since the company’s latest Instagram update – issued today – has turned the app’s menu and background entirely black-and-white. Weird, right?
Nevertheless, Instagram is committed to its new look, and has updated the icons across all four of its apps, including Layout, Boomerang, and Hyperlapse:

In a blog post explaining the move, an Instagram spokesperson writes:
“The Instagram community has evolved over the past five years from a place to share filtered photos to so much more – a global community of interests sharing more than 80 million photos and videos every day. Our updated look reflects how vibrant a diverse your storytelling has become.”

But the internet hates change, as we saw with Google’s recent trial of black-link search results, and 2015’s Spotify logo hue switcheroo. Instagram’s new logo is no exception, and furious app users have flooded social media condemning the re-design.
Seriously, people really despise the new logo:

Instagram is one of the world’s biggest social networks. The service launched in late 2010 and was acquired by Facebook two years later. It now serves around 400 million monthly active users, trumping Twitter’s 305 million-strong userbase by a long way.
