Mass Effect 4 may not relate to Shepard storyline or characters in any way

Mass Effect 3
Mass Effect 3 may well be the last we see of Shepard. Ever.

Mass Effect 4 may not be related to any of the Shepard storyline events or its characters in any way “whatsoever”.

According to Mass Effect 3 lead writer Mac Walters, the next entry in the Mass Effect series may not relate directly to the existing trilogy.

“Well, I can’t get into details, but the idea is that we have agreed to tell a story that doesn’t relate necessarily to any of the Shepard events at all, whatsoever”, explained Walters.

Mass Effect 4 is currently in development at Bioware Montreal, but details on the game’s plot and storyline have been scarce at best. However, it seems that the game may not feature Shepard or any of his/her crew mates as previously hinted by Bioware.

“That’s what we’ve been deciding for a while. But throughout it all, one of the key things is that it has to be Mass Effect. It can’t just feel like a spin-off. It has to feel like a Mass Effect game at its heart, at its core. Just without the Shepard character or the Shepard specific companions.”

The next Mass Effect game could well be set centuries after the finale events of Mass Effect 3, the ending of which has always been a controversial topic for fans of the series.

“It’s been 18-19 months since it came out and my thoughts on it are that we addressed it the best we could in the extended cut. We’re obviously not going to be changing anything now. We’re only going forward,” said Walters. “In hindsight, I don’t think there was anything we would have changed about that, but it is a really good lesson learned.”

Casey Hudson, the series’ executive producer, has already said Mass Effect 4 will be “something fresh and new” and the Bioware Montreal boys were bragging on Twitter about how “beautiful, fun and ambitious” the game is looking at the latest milestone review point.

We don’t expect a Mass Effect 4 release date until after the autumn 2014 Dragon Age: Inquisition release date.

This is my hope that the next installment doesn't cling on to the previous entries, had ME3 turned out a little better than I would be ok with the ideas of spin-offs and prequels. But I feel discouraged from showing interest in any of them.

I think Walter and Casey are greedy and selfish. I think Bioware should be ashamed of them self for what they did to there fans. So many people upset with the way you did the game and how you approached it. All they could do it ok this is all we could do to it. They put a cut scene in and thats all.? I believe if I am going to play sixty dollars for a game it better be right and done the way it should be. Plus this crap on the first day downloadable content so they could make extra money off fans? They had it already made just took it out of the game to make even more money.. I pre ordered Mass Effect 3 almost a year before it came out because of ME2 that was by far the best game of the series. I dont see how they sleep at night knowing what they did to people by ripping them off like they did.. Mass Effect series had potential to be among the Greats like Gears of War, Halo. But with the third part coming out and B ioware and EA handling it they way they did I hope people pay attention to this and remember this and what they did to the fans. I hope for there sake they dont just to do it like Halo 3 and bring shepard back after years of us thinking it is over then bring him back like Halo 4 did Master Chief. Which sucked as well. I wouldnt but most of this past EA after they were voted the worst company last year.. Bioware needs to pull away from them before it is to late to bouce back.. I had at least 20-30 Comander Shepards on the first Mass Effect.About the same for Mass Effect 2 if not more. But Mass Effect 3 2-3 is all I could do.No matter what I did the out come was the same. I couldn't change anything. Wasnt worth my time. If Mass Effect 4 first fix the problems of Mass Effect 3 then it will not be worth my time and I hope more people do the same because of what there doing to there fans who have been with them since the first Mass Effect.
