Mars is a floating Bluetooth speaker

Some tech is so advanced it feels like magic. This piece of hi-fi kit looks like magic too – its speaker levitates an inch or so above the subwoofer.

The makers claim this makes for more room-filling sound because it reduces sound wave absorption into surfaces. Can’t say we’ve ever found that to be a problem to be honest. We think it just looks quite cool.

It levitates thanks to opposing magnetic poles. The fact it’s magnetic also means you can stick it to other metal objects, should you feel the need. (The demo video shows it stuck to the handlebars of a bike, for example.)

It’s also built for the outdoors, being waterproof to three feet, and running for eight hours before needing a recharge.

It adjusts the volume based on how close you are to it, so you can always hear the music without being deafened. It does this by reading how close your Bluetooth-connected phone is. It’ll be interesting to see how accurate it is.

There’s no word on how powerful the subwoofer is, but it comes with two USB ports so you can charge your mobile devices while using it.

It also doubles as a speakerphone.

It’s already passed its $100,000 funding goal on Indiegogo, and still has 25 days to go.
