Nintendo has announced a rather significant update for the Super Mario Maker game for Wii U.
On November 4, level creators will be able to drop checkpoint flags on their courses, meaning players won’t have to start again from the beginning of the level every time they die.
That feature in particular has huge ramifications for the community, given the bragging rights associated with creating the hardest levels possible.
Of course, level designers have to complete the course themselves before uploading it to the community so throwing down a merciful checkpoint flag will be welcomed by gaming mortals.
Users can combine a mushroom with a fire flower to build a single power-up. If Mario is small, he’ll get the mushroom, if he’s already Super Mario, he’ll obtain the fire flower.
The update will also bring the addition of an Official tab in the Makers section, which will be reserved for courses created by Nintendo.
Meanwhile there’ll also be a new slew of ‘Event Courses,’ for special events. One of the first will be Ship Love, a winning level from a Facebook hackathon earlier in 2016.
This makes Facebook the first outside partner in the US to design a level for the game.
