Mailbox for Mac app emerges from beta

Update: Mailbox was retired and you can find out more about why here.

Slick email app Mailbox is now available to try in beta format by all Mac owners.

The hit mobile app, which has been helping iPhone and Android users to reach ‘inbox zero’ for some time now, was launched on Apple’s desktop OS back in August.

However, at the time you could only gain access to the Mailbox beta by receiving an invite. Now the Mail beta has been opened out to everyone with a Mac.

The Dropbox-owned company revealed that Mailbox Mac had entered open beta on Twitter yesterday.

Even more than its incredibly slick, flat UI design, Mailbox is notable for its ability to quickly deal with masses of incoming email. You can do things like dismiss or even snooze messages (so that they reappear later at a more convenient time) with a swipe.

Naturally, given that Mailbox was conceived as a mobile app first and foremost, this Mac version will sync with the mobile version. In fact, you can do things like continue drafts between the two and pin important emails to the top of your list for the next time you’re at your Mac.

At present, Mailbox is only compatible with two email account types – Gmail and iCloud – and you’ll need a Dropbox account to use it properly. All that being accepted, the Mailbox Mac beta is available to download now from the Mailbox website.
