Mad Catz has announced the insane new Mad Catz L.Y.N.X.9 mobile hybrid controller.

The L.Y.N.X.9 is a hybrid controller that lets you play across multiple devices, just by being assembled in a slightly different way.

Mad Catz has attempted to cover all bases with the L.Y.N.X.9 and it’s a seriously impressive looking controller.

Working in a similar way to a Swiss Army Knife, the L.Y.N.X.9 starts off life a compact folded up item that Mad Catz claims you can pop in your pocket.

But then, it folds out into a crab-like controller that can accommodate up to 7-inch tablets and smartphones.

It also has various configurations where you can attach the included QWERTY keyboard for easier text input.

No doubt initially it will be like trying to figure out a Transformer toy from the good old days, but it’s a novel idea that could put other mobile controllers of its type to shame.

You can even attach special legs to form a solid table stand for gaming with your tablet docked.

“We believe the L.Y.N.X represents a generational leap in mobile game controllers,” said Darren Richardson, President and CEO at Mad Catz. “The L.Y.N.X.9 is designed to offer a premium gaming experience in almost any situation.”

As it’s a Bluetooth controller, the L.Y.N.X.9 can connect to your Android tablets and smartphones, and even your PC. If you’ve got a Bluetooth enabled Smart TV, you could use it with that too, which is where that QWERTY keyboard may well come in useful.

There’s even an integrated Mouse Sensor Pad and media controls in-built for precision controls. Mad Catz has added a microphone built-in too for voice search compatible devices.

Mad Catz even include PlayBig cables for connecting your phone or tablet to your HDTV.

The L.Y.N.X.9 has a rechargeable battery inside that Mad Catz claims offers up to 30 hours of battery life from a single charge.

It’s available to order today, but won’t start shipping until March. It will retail at a rather heady $299.99 (£197).
