MacBook Pro 2016 image leak suggests Apple is going all-in with USB-C

The 2016 MacBook Pro could have as many as four USB Type-C ports, if freshly leaked photos prove genuine.

In recent months we’ve heard rumours of a radical MacBook Pro refresh set for Q4. Murmurs of a significantly slimmer body and a tip of the hat to the latest MacBook‘s design has set us to wondering about the new machine’s connection options.

Sure enough, a fresh component leak suggests that Apple is ditching the regular cluster of USB and HDMI ports in favour of a pure USB Type-C approach. While the MacBook frustrates with its single port, there could be four of the suckers in Apple’s next top-end laptop.

As you can see from the side profile snaps, the new MacBook has four USB Type-C ports, a 3.5mm headphone port… and that’s it.

Cult of Mac explains that these images come from an anonymous source who claims to work for one of Apple’s Chinese manufacturing partners.

Also noteworthy is the apparent confirmation of an OLED touchpad above the keyboard. Analyst reports had already suggested the presence of such a quirky feature, and there’s clearly space for something above those physical keys.

This OLED panel should provide a flexible control bar that changes function according to the current app.
