Lumma gives your bike side lights

A real night rider

Cycling at night is a dangerous business, so the more visible you can make yourself, the better. This lighting system promises to make sure no other road users can miss you.

It's called Lumma, and it gives your ride front lights, rear lights, and even side lights. That means that a laser is projected onto the floor either side of you as you go, so everyone can see exactly how wide you are. Hopefully, that should lead to fewer collisions.

Best of all, it's all integrated into the grips on the handlebars, so it's easily controlled while you ride. No more having to remember to switch the lights on before you set off.

It's locked in place too, so no one can steal it. And you won't have to remove it every time you lock up. Which will save a lot of faff.

It packs lithium-ion batteries that are easily charged from a standard USB port. Which should save you a fortune on batteries. Each charge gives you around 50 hours of use, which should be enough to last about six weeks of cycling (providing you're not overdoing it).

It's raised over $14,000 of an $18,000 goal and still has 13 days to go. Pledge $45 (£32) and it can be yours on an early bird. If successful, it should ship in August.
