Lumia Denim to hit all Windows Phone 8.1 handsets from January

Microsoft has confirmed the Lumia Denim update for Windows Phone 8.1 devices will be rolled out across the world in early January.

The update, which was announced in September, began to arrive in China this week for Lumia owners rocking the 1320, 525, 526, 625, and 720 models.

Now the company has announced testing is ongoing with network partners in territories ahead of the roll out early in the New Year.

“The Lumia Denim update has started rolling out to a limited number of devices in selected markets,” a post on the Lumia Conversations (via TechRadar) blog read.

“[It] will continue arriving in waves by device. A wider rollout of Lumia Denim to all Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8.1 is expected to begin in early January, following partner testing and approvals.”

As we reported earlier on Friday, the update brings ‘a faster and more intuitive Lumia Camera app,’ which shortens the time needed between shots.

There’s also a new Moment Capture feature which allows users to simply hold down the camera button to instantly start recording 24fps 4K video, while still enabling individual frames to be saved at 8.3-megapixels.

Elsewhere, there’s a Rich Capture mode that offers HDR and Dynamic Flash modes to be automatically enabled, while the image processing tech has also been boosted.

Also, included within the update is improvements to Glance Screen, while the ‘Hey Cortana’ feature is also bundled in. As our earlier report points out, none of the handsets receiving the update are able to make use of this feature.
