Lumia 430 announced as most affordable Windows phone yet

Microsoft has announced another new entry-level Windows Phone device, but the Lumia 430 is the cheapest yet.

The Lumia 430 is a basic dual-SIM smartphone intended for sale in developing regions at a knock-down price.

It features a 4-inch WVGA display, a dual-core Snapdragon 200 CPU, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, and a microSD slot for expansion purposes.

There’s a mere 2-megapixel rear camera, although at least there is also a front-facing camera (which there hasn’t always been on low-end Lumias). Its only a VGA 0.3-megapixel example, mind.

Of course, when you’re talking about a handset that will cost just $70 (which roughly translates to £47), it’s tough to complain too much about the lowly specs.

Microsoft also claims that the Lumia 430 will be the most affordably priced Lumia to be capable of being upgraded to Windows 10 when it launches later in the year. It’ll ship with the latest version of Windows Phone 8.1, but you’ll be able to jump to the new cross-platform standard at the appropriate point.

Besides all of this, the Lumia 430 isn’t intended for the UK – or any developed market for that matter. Rather, Microsoft is going to launch it in APAC, IMEA, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus, where it’s anticipated that it will become many people’s first smartphone.

The Lumia 430 will hit those territories in April.
