Lovefilm is continuing its assault on all fronts as it bids to fight off the attack from Netflix on its UK market share in the film and TV subscription streaming market.
As well as lowering the price of its streaming-only service to £4.99, it has tied up deals with the likes of the BBC, ITV, ABC and studios like Warner Brothers and Sony. Now it is expanding the number of devices you will be able to watch Lovefilm on, announcing a deal with LG which will make it available as an app on the company's Smart TV platform.
There are already 250 apps available on the Smart TV platform but this is the first film and TV subscription streaming service available to LG TV owners. Indeed it is LG who will probably be the happier of two, as Lovefilm is already available on 175 devices including Sony and Samsung TVs, consoles and Blu-ray players.
No indication has been given by LG as to when the app will be available to UK customers, but considering the press release boasts that Gnomeo & Juliet is one of the most anticipated forthcoming titles, you may want to hold onto your £4.99 for now.
We are currently testing both Lovefilm and Netflix streaming services here in the office at the moment and will be bringing you the results very soon, so stay tuned.
Update: Lovefilm has been in touch and has confirmed that the service will roll out to LG TVs from April. LG has also announced the models which will be getting the app:
