LoveFilm and Amazon Prime Instant Video to host Zombieland TV pilot

LoveFilm has announced that it will be playing host to the pilot episode of the Zombieland TV series, as part of its Amazon Studios original content line-up.

The seventh comedy TV series title to be added to the original pilots Amazon are making available for free via the Amazon Prime Instant Video and LoveFilm services, users are being asked to rate the pilots after they have viewed them.

This feedback will help Amazon Studios, the film and TV series production arm of Amazon.com, decide which of the thirteen pilots currently showcased on the sites to make into a full-length TV series.

Based on the Columbia Pictures Zombieland movie, released in 2009 and starring Jessie Eisenberg, Emma Stone, Abigail Breslin and Woody Harrelson, the Zombieland TV series will also find four zombie apocalypse survivors battling to stay alive and find somewhere safe, with often comedic outcomes.

“Zombieland is a fan favourite and we can’t wait to see where this story line goes in a serialised format,” said Director of Amazon Studios, Roy Price. “We’ve been announcing a lot of exciting exclusive content for Prime Instant Video, like Downton Abbey, Under the Dome, and Justified and we think adding original shows, such as Zombieland, to that line-up is going to make Prime even more enticing for customers.”

The Zombieland TV series pilot was written and produced by the same team as the feature film, but has a new director, Eli Craig. If the series gets chosen by Amazon Prime and LoveFilm subscribers, then it will star Maiara Walsh, Kirk Ward, Tyler Ross and Izabela Vidovic as the four main characters.

“Zombieland will strive to break the rules – action, adventure, thrills, chills and laughs all packed in a half hour format”, said series creator, Paul Wernick. “This is not your average show but Amazon is not your average network.”

The Amazon Studios original content follows the example of rival TV series and movie streaming website, Netflix, who launched their first original series House of Cards at the start of last month to great critical and consumer acclaim.
