Long War Studios to create official mods for XCOM 2

Firaxis Games has announced that fan favourite mode creators Long War Studios will be developing content for XCOM 2.

XCOM 2 is shaping up to be a dream come true for PC gamers, as developer Firaxis Games continue to show dedication to the platform.

The Long War conversion mod for XCOM: Enemy Unknown was downloaded by over 500,000 fans, and was personally approved by lead designer Jake Solomon last year.

The extensive modification brought a number of modifications to the vanilla game. These included new weapons, enemies, classes and even missions with their own unique objectives.

It was universally loved by thousands of fans, so it’s no surprise that Firaxis has picked up the talent at Long War Studios for the upcoming sequel

The minds behind The Long War, Jason Karlson, John Lumpkin and Rachael Norman, will join Firaxis Games in providing continuous mod support for XCOM 2 after release.

We aren’t yet sure what kind of content will be created, but it’s bound to be super difficult and satisfying for XCOM veterans.

Long War Studios will join Firaxis Games at PAX South in San Antonio later this month. They will host a panel to discuss mod support and show off a live gameplay demonstration for XCOM 2. You can check it out over at PAX’s Twitch Channel on January 30.

XCOM 2 is coming exclusively to PC on February 5, and will only support mouse and keyboard controls at launch.

Firaxis Games is yet to confirm if the game will ever come to consoles, as previous titles sold poorly on PS3 and Xbox 360.

We can’t wait for XCOM 2, even if we’re still hurting over losing our beloved squad in Enemy Unknown.
