Logitech unveils new steering wheels for PS4 and Xbox One

Top peripheral maker Logitech has announced two new steering wheel controllers, one for PS4 and other for the Xbox One.

Both the Logitech G29 for PS4 and the Logitech G920 feature dual-motor force feedback, readily accessible gaming controls for their respective platforms, and responsive three-pedal setups.

Helical gears have been modelled after the gearing used in real car transmissions, so you get an exceptionally smooth and accurate steering action, while anti-backlash technology in the wheel and pedals keeps inputs tight.

Meanwhile that dual-motor feedback system enables the wheels to simulate the feel of weight shift, changing road conditions, and the effects of tire wear.

They’re solidly build pieces of kit, too, with the kind of looks you’d expect to see in a modern F1 car (and just as many buttons). The wheel itself is covered in hand-stitched leather and the shaft uses solid steel ball bearings, while the pedals are made from stainless steel.

In the Logitech G29’s case, this craft has resulted in an officially endorsed peripheral. “For the past 18 months we have been working with Sony to deliver a fully-licensed racing wheel and I am excited to announce it today,” said vice president and general manager of the Logitech gaming business Ujesh Desai.

With the G29 you even get an LED indicator that tells you when the optimal time to shift gear with the semi-auto paddles is, as well as a 24-point selection dial that lets you fine-tune your driving preferences.

The G920 (Logitech’s first Xbox One wheel), meanwhile, will also be joined by an optional six-speed manual gear stick called the Driving Force Shifter – complete with push-down reverse gear – at a later date.

In addition to the headline current gen platforms, the G29 also supports PS3, while the G920 can also be used in a PC setup.

The Logitech G29 will hit the UK in July for £299.99, while the Logitech G920 will arrive in October for the same price.
