Logitech has announced the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover, a case and Bluetooth keyboard accessory for the new iPad and iPad 2. It'll be available later this month and sell for £89.99.
iPads are fun, but the virtual keyboard is no replacement for a tappy-tappy physical 'board if you want to type longer-form docs. Enter the Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover - a wireless keyboard that doubles-up as a protective case for your tablet.
This isn't the first keyboard for iPads Logitech has produced, but it is the sleekest and the slimmest. It attaches to the tablet magnetically, removing the need for any bulky clasps or clips. Using magnets also lets the Keyboard Cover work like a Smart Cover, automatically turning the iPad on and off as the case is opened and closed.
It uses a chiclet key design, with a distinct gap between each button. Logitech has made the use of the full width of the case too, which is good to see when many iPad keyboards end up feeling cramped. The keyboard interfaces with the iPad over Blueooth, powered by an internal battery that Logitech says will last for up to six months.
The Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover looks slick and, with an aluminium outer layer for extra protection, sounds like a premium accessory. However, it uses a fairly simple docking mechanism.
The iPad slips into a slot just above the keyboard. You won't be able to fold the mechanism flat like an Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime or laptop. That said, we're yet to see an iPad keyboard case does work this way.
