Linkle may play a part in future Legend of Zelda titles

The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma has said that Linkle may be featured in future Zelda games.

Back in November, Nintendo revealed Linkle, a female version of Link coming to Hyrule Warriors Legends.

Reception for the character has been so overwhelming, that Nintendo is already considering her for future games in the Zelda franchise.

Speaking to IGN, Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma said he would “keep her in mind when thinking about future Zelda titles.”

“She doesn’t feel out of place at all in the world of the Zelda games,” Aonuma explained.

Linkle first appeared in Japanese concept art for Hyrule Warriors, and fan response was enough to have her included in the 3DS spinoff, Hyrule Warriors Legends.

“Seeing that reaction, [Team Ninja’s Yosuke Hayashi] and I talked it over and decided that we would definitely like to include her in the next title. I’m really glad we got the chance to do that with Hyrule Warriors Legends,” Aonuma said.

The interview also expands on Linkle’s identity as a character, showing that she is far more than a genderbent version of Link.

“Linkle is a young woman who lives in a small village in Hyrule and cares for Cuccos. She has aspired to be a hero since she was little, and believes that the compass she received from her grandmother, which has been passed down for generations, is the symbol that proves it.”

Many have speculated that Linkle may be the protagonist of The Legend of Zelda Wii U, as the Link we have seen so far appears androgynous, and could easily be female.

We’re excited to see Linkle included in future Nintendo games, and would definitely be up for an adventure led by the new character.

Hyrule Warriors Legends will be available in North America and Europe on March 25, 2016 for Nintendo 3DS.
