Job seekers can now make their new connections on LinkedIn’s more graphically orientated iPad app.

LinkedIn, the widely used social networking site for professionals, has released its first dedicated iPad app. From the outset it’s optimised for the third generation tablet’s high res Retina Display, and compared to the rather stuffy web interface, it appears to be a suitably slick reinvention of the service.

After logging in you are greeted with a minimalist front page where you can choose All Updates, check your Inbox and manage invites or go to your profile page. The latter creates a digital CV that could be handy in meetings or interviews, though as some users have already pointed out, you can’t edit it directly in the app.

It has a side-swiping navigation familiar to tablet users, while update feeds and news items from the LinkedIn Today section are presented in a magazine style layout, similar to Flipboard.

LinkedIn has added a calendar sync feature for this app and via an update for its Android and iPhone versions, where it’s a universal iOS app.

There is also a new LinkedIn web portal, which has been specifically designed for using on tablets and provides much the same experience as the iPad app, but which will work on Android OS or any portable device running a web browser.
