LG has announced the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition smartwatch, just six months after the first LG Watch Urbane was released.
However, while the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition looks similar to its recent predecessor, it brings one major addition to the package.
The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition is the first Android Wear watch to support LTE connectivity. This means that it’s the first Android Wear watch that can operate apart from a smartphone.
Of course, it’s not identical to the first LG Watch Urbane in construction terms. It’s got a smaller body and a bigger (1.38-inch) P-OLED screen, with a relatively high resolution of 480 x 480.
Another point to note is that the wrist bands are no longer swappable. As The Verge explains, this is because LG has built the aforementioned cellular technology directly into the wrist strap of the new Urbane.

With the addition of LTE in mind, LG has also added two new buttons above and below the main crown button, reflecting the watch’s new phone-like capabilities. And yes, you’ll be able to accept calls on the Urbane 2nd Edition.
LG will be detailing the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition further at today’s New York launch event, which will take place from 11am local time (4pm GMT). For now, it’s released an Official Product Video to gawp at.
There’s no price or availability information at present, beyond the fact that the new watch will be debuting in the US and South Korea.
