LG V30S: What you need to know about LG’s next high-end smartphone

When LG confirmed in January that it wouldn’t be launching the flagship LG G7 at MWC 2018, it hinted that it has something else up its sleeve for the gathering – and that’s rumoured to be the LG V30S. Here’s everything we know about the handset, including its release date, specs, features and price.

LG V30S Design and Specs: What’s new, and what’s old?

The so-called LG V30S is said to be an incremental upgrade, with the most notable addition being the inclusion of an AI-driven camera setup similar to the one on board the Google Pixel 2. It’s also said to come with at least 256GB of expandable storage and could be armed with Qualcomm’s all-new Snapdragon 845 CPU.

A recent report from somewhat reliable Korean outlet ETNews noted that the LG V30S sports a near-identical design to the standard LG V30. That means it should retain the same 6-inch high-resolution 18:9 screen, centre-mounted rear-facing fingerprint sensor and dual-camera setup – although the sensors could be slightly different.

The AI-driven camera setup I mentioned earlier is expected to function in a similar way to Samsung’s Bixby Vision engine, letting customers use the camera to identify real-world products. A currency and text translation feature is also on the cards, as is a barcode- and QR-scanning tool, according to a source familiar with the firm’s plans.

LG V30S Release Date: When will it be official?

We shouldn’t have to wait too much longer to find out what LG is hiding. Mobile World Congress – MWC 2018 – is scheduled to commence on February 26 and run through March 1, with some manufacturers holding events on February 25. There’s a chance the firm could take the wraps off the LG V30S on any of those days.
