With tablets still finding their niche and the popularity of netbooks waning somewhat, ultraportable laptops are looking to capture a section of the market which remains undecided about what is the best portable computing solution.  Earlier this week we saw Acer’s Aspire 3951 and today LG has unveiled the P220.

It’s hard to tell whether the P220 comes under the rather hazy guidelines of an Ultrabook, as prescribed by Intel, but it will none-the-less be competing with the likes of the Aspire 3951 and the Asus UX21 for market share.

The P220 is an update to the P210 and features an 11.6in IPS display which boasts viewing angles of up to 178 degrees – with the screen surrounded by an attractively slim bezel. It is just under 21mm thick and weighs just over 1.3kgs - putting it firmly in the ultraportable category.

Back at Computex, when the P220 was first shown off, it was fitted with the latest Core i7 processor but it will now ship with Core i5. The P220 lacks USB 3.0 connectivity which will put it behind the UX21 (in some people’s eyes) but it includes Bluetooth 2.0, a HDMI port, a 4-in-1 card reader and supports DNLA streaming. It will come in a choice of white pearl, pink pearl or blue pearl.

The LG P220 won't be competing with the premium models like the Samsung Series 9 or the MacBook Air but although there is no word on pricing yet, it could undercut its ultraportable competitors in order to attract some customers.

The P220 will go on sale in South Korea this month and will come to Europe soon after.
