LG has confirmed that it intends to build on its recent LG LifeBand Touch unveiling, announcing it will release further fitness trackers individually designed for men and women.
While current fitness tracking gadgets tend to be unisex offerings, with some available in a variety of sizes for differing wrists, LG has confirmed that it plans to launch a selection of devices that are specifically tailed to the different physical and performance-based attributes of men and women.
Speaking with TrustedReviews on the company’s future fitness plans, Darren Peterson, a Senior Content and Service manager at LG, stated: “We will have different versions for men and for women moving forward.”
He added: “We are going to launch with the LifeBand Touch first but different sizes and shapes will follow.”
Announced during CES 2014, the LG LifeBand Touch was unveiled as a wrist-mounted fitness tracker, similar to the market leading Nike FuelBand SE.
As well as confirming the company’s intent to launch a female exclusive fitness tracker, Peterson has suggested that despite no previous fitness market experience, LG can compete with the specialist likes of Nike and Adidas.
“I think this is going to be a big new market so there is plenty of room for multiple brands to play in it, as long as the products are going to stand up and be good enough.”
Discussing the company’s first offering he added: “The LG LifeBand Touch is launching this year with an OLED touchscreen and you can see all your incoming calls and messages. It will also track all your steps and burned calories.”
While the LG LifeBand Touch is set to be rolled out to retailers around “late March, early April,” the LG spokesperson has offered no indication as to when the company will launch its gender-tailored fitness offerings.
