LG pledges to continue plasma TV production

LG has pledged to continue to manufacturer plasma TVs, a move that comes as rival companies turn their backs on the TV technology.

With Panasonic having recently confirmed that it plans to completely cease production of its own plasma TVs in order to focus its efforts elsewhere, LG has promised to continue its own plasma production for at least another year.

“Let me put plasma fans at ease,” Tim Alessi, LG’s Head of Home Entertainment for the USA said during the company’s CES 2014 press conference this morning.

He added: “LG will continue with the plasma category and will have a 2014 line up consisting of four new series and five TVs overall.

Although Alessi has failed to go into too much detail about exactly what specifications the new LG Plasma TVs will take, he stated: “There will be models ranging in size from 42 to 60 inches and will feature a great combination of value and picture quality that plasma fans know and love”

While rivals are refocussing their TV efforts LG continues to take more of a scattergun approach to its TV production, targeting all corners of the market.

As well as renewing its plasma push, LG used its CES showcase event to confirm the launch of a new 105-inch curved Ultra HD TV, a range of new 4K models and a total of 25 new LCD televisions.
