LG has announced a new music streaming speaker system called Music Flow, which promises to take on Sonos at its own game.
The new system is comprised of a number of separate elements, including speakers, a sound bar, and a network bridge to help connect them all.
LG Music Flow also incorporates the Music Flow Player smartphone app, through which users can manage their digital music collection and control all of the above elements. It can also provide contextual playlists through its Mood Station feature.
Naturally, the Music Flow system also works well with streaming services such as Spotify and Deezer.
As will all of LG’s recent home automation initiatives, Music Flow incorporates HomeChat. This service allows you to contact and control the sound system remotely by messaging it, using natural English, through the Line instant messaging app.
You can also use NFC tags for “one-touch music enjoyment.”
Auto Music Play, meanwhile, enables LG Music Flow to pump music through according to your location. If you’re listening on your smartphone on the walk back from work, the Music Flow system will push the music to your speakers once your arrive home. It will even detect which room you’re in and react accordingly.
Thanks to mesh network technology and dual-band Wi-Fi, LG claims you’ll get far fewer signal drops than competing systems that sport only a single access point.
UK customers will get the LG Music Flow system some time this month, while the rest of Europe will have to wait until after IFA 2014 at the beginning of September, where the whole system will be on show.
No pricing details have been revealed as yet.
