LG has announced a new high-fidelity music service, but it will only be available to owners of its premium smartphones.
Starting this month, LG will introduce a new Hi-Fi music service through the LG SmartWorld app on selected LG phones across 70 countries.
The UK will be included in that list, as will the United States, Australia, Brazil, China, France, Italy and Russia.
LG’s new service will deliver music playback at 24-bit/192kHz, which is roughly six times richer than typical CD quality – and well beyond the MP3 streaming standard of Spotify and its ilk.
It’s this advanced file quality that necessitates the aforementioned hardware limitations. Only the LG G4, LG G3, LG G2, and LG G Flex 2 are capable of 24-bit playback.
Apparently, qualifying customers will be able to claim two free Hi-Fi tracks per month, and will have the option to purchase songs at up to half the regular price.

“Our Hi-Fi music service reflects our ongoing commitment to providing additional customer benefits to loyal LG customers,” said LG’s Chris Yi. “MP3 music is perfectly fine for most people, but those with Hi-Fi-capable LG smartphones can experience a much richer environment.”
There’s no news as yet on precise pricing, and it doesn’t sound as if there will be a streaming element to this service either. Don’t cancel those Spotify or Google Play Music subscriptions just yet, LG users.
