LG hints at new smartphone series ahead of MWC 2013

LG has hinted to a new smartphone range release ahead of MWC 2013 later this month, teasing the range through a picture on its LG Mobile Facebook page.

The gift-wrapped picture states that a “new series will be unveiled”, but doesn’t as yet state when that will be or what the new handsets will be like.

The even more cryptic photo caption reads “see what surprise LG has in store for you this time, with an unexpected distinction.”

Speaking at the LG press conference at CES 2013, the South Korean electronics manufacturer said it would be readying a selection of high-end smartphones for the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this month.

“At MWC next month, and throughout the year, we’ll be bringing more tier one handsets, in various screen sizes,” said James Fisher, US Senior VP of Marketing for LG, at CES 2013 last month.

It seems this Facebook announcement brings LG fans one step closer to seeing what the new handsets will offer.

MWC Rumours
LG has not been subject to the internet leaks of rivals HTC and Samsung, who have seen internet chatter about their various rumoured devices reaching furore levels pre-MWC announcements.

The rumours surrounding the HTC M7 have suggested the handset will feature a 4.7-inch display with full HD 1080p resolution and 1.7GHz quad-core processor. The next flagship HTC handset looks set to be unveiled at a dedicated February 19 HTC event in London, before MWC.

Meanwhile the reportedly upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 seems to be waiting for a MWC launch, with a speculated 5-inch full HD 1080p screen, eight-core processor and 2GB of RAM.

Other rumoured Samsung devices include the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, with the new tablet seemingly confirmed by Samsung’s JK Shin, and the Samsung Tab 3.
