LG G5 SE exists, but it’s nothing like the iPhone SE

The LG G5 SE

Enter, the LG G5 SE: a slightly less powerful LG G5 that sounds like it was named after Apple’s new iPhone.

This new LG smartphone was debuted – and swiftly un-debuted – on the official LG Russia website earlier today.

It’s a low-spec version of the LG G5, although it doesn’t feature a 4-inch screen like the new (and similarly titled) iPhone SE.

The LG G5 SE features a Quad HD 5.3-inch IPS display (554ppi), and runs on Google’s Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

It also boasts a dual 16-megapixel/8-megapixel combo camera system on the back, plus an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

And just like the LG G5, it has a fingerprint scanner/home button on the back, a USB-C port, and the same modular design.

lg g5Right, is this the LG G5 or the LG G5 SE? Does anyone know? Does it even matter?

So what’s actually different? The only obvious changes are downgrades to an octa-core 1.8GHz Snapdragon 652 processor (instead of the Snapdragon 820), and 3GB of RAM (down from 4GB).

The LG G5 SE is also slightly thinner at 7.3mm thick, compared to the marginally beefier 7.7mm LG G5.

So it’s less powerful, but mostly looks the same as the LG G5. That’s in contrast to the iPhone SE, which is just as powerful as the iPhone 6S, but looks completely different.

Pricing, availability, and the release date are all a mystery for now, and will likely remain so until LG makes an official announcement.
