LG has announced yet another LG G4 spin-off, this time in the guise of the mid-range LG G4s.
In actual fact, LG is promoting the new phone as the LG G4 Beat, but it will be known as the LG G4s in Europe and the CIS region.
The new handset isn’t to be confused with the LG G4c, which, although sharing a superficial similarity, is a less capable phone. Keen as ever to capitalise on the goodwill towards its latest flagship phone – the LG G4 – the Korean manufacturer has revealed a phone that borrows its design, but fits it out with mid-range components.
Of course, the cynical might point out that it was primarily the design of the LG G4 that let it down, but we’ll gloss over that for now.
According to LG, the LG G4s “retains the best features and functions of the LG G4.” That’s not strictly true if you examine the spec sheet, but it does appear to be a capable lower-mid-ranger.
For example, the LG G4s has a 5.2in Full HD IPS display, rather than the G4’s 5.5in QHD Quantum Display. It’s also powered by a Snapdragon 615 CPU, rather than the original G4’s Snapdragon 808.
It’s the same story with the camera. This was arguably the LG G4’s defining feature: a brilliant 16-megapixel unit with a super-bright f/1.8 lens and OIS. The LG G4 Beat has a more modest 8-megapixel camera, although it does come with a colour-spectrum sensor for accurate colour detection, as well as a full manual mode.
Other G4s specs include 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a 2,300mAh battery, Android 5.1.1, and a thin 9.85mm body weighing 139g.
While it might not match the LG G4’s best features, then, the company does look on course to create an affordable phone that’s “well- balanced in terms of display, camera, performance and design.”

Pricing and release-date information for the LG G4s isn’t available yet, but it will make its debut this month in key markets in Europe – including France and Germany – and Latin America, in Brazil.
It will then roll out globally in Canada, India, Russia, Singapore, South Africa and Turkey.
