LG G4 release date confirmed, and it's coming soon

The LG G4 release date has been confirmed, and you’re not going to have to wait long to get your hands on the device.

Having debuted the phone at a dedicated launch event today, LG has confirmed that the LG G4 release date has been pencilled in for tomorrow, April 29 – in the company’s native Korea at least.

Rushing the device to market, the manufacturer is looking to capitalise on the hype surrounding its new leather-clad Samsung Galaxy S6 rival.

There is currently no precise word when the handset will hit British retailers, however.

“The LG G4 will start its global roll-out on April 29 in Korea and will eventually be available on approximately 180 carriers worldwide,” the company announced.

“The handset will be widely available in the UK, both on the high street and online.”

Although LG has yet to detail precise UK launch plans, UK seller Carphone Warehouse has suggested the phone will hit store shelves on May 28.

The LG G4 is the firm’s latest flagship phone and a direct rival to the likes of the iPhone 6 and HTC One M9.

Boasting a 5.5-inch, 2560 x 1440 pixel QHD display, the slightly curved phone will hit UK retailers in a variety of tones.

There will be nine LG G4 colours available at launch, with the leather-backed model being offered up alongside plastic wrapped options for those not fans of the cowhide look.

Beneath the surface, a Snapdragon 808 processor runs the show alongside 3GB of RAM and a skinned version of Google’s latest Android 5.0 Lollipop OS.

A 16-megapixel, OIS-enhanced camera with a low light specialising f/1.8 wide aperture lens sits on the devices rear, with a secondary, 8-megapixel camera up front.

Pricing details are yet to be announced.
