LG G4 in the works as manufacturer patents future phone names

The LG G3 might be just a matter of weeks old, but the Korean manufacturer has already given a very clear indication as to what we can expect from its future smartphone efforts.

Securing the naming rights to enough flagship handsets to last until the year 2020, LG has filed patent applications in its native land for a mass of upcoming smartphones, including the LG G4.

With the LG G3 having kicked the company back into the realms of smartphone hotshot, the patents have highlighted LG’s plans to pursue the ‘G’ branded flagship line for years to come.

Joining the LG G3 on the patented hit list are the LG G5, G6, G7, G8 and, yep, you guessed it, LG G9.

Of course these handsets might never make it to market, but it shows serious intent from LG to transform itself into a serious, and consistent, smartphone player.

There is currently no word on the sort of specs sheet we can expect from what will presumably be a 2015 released LG G4.

The LG G3 is one of the most impressive handsets on the market right now, pairing a near bezel-free design with a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 pixel QHD display, quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM and Google’s latest Android 4.4 KitKat OS.
