The G3 looks set to reignite the specs war

Forget the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One 2, newly surfaced leaks have suggested the LG G3 will launch later this year with a stunning 2560 x 1440 WQHD display.

According to claimed source code from the as yet unconfirmed handset, the LG G3 will become the first flagship smartphone to move beyond a 1080p Full HD panel, jumping to a WQHD offering.

Based on the leaked code – which has surfaced thanks to the usually reliable tipster @evleaks – the LG G3 is currently in the works under the codename of the LG D850. Although the phone will benefit from a market-leading display, it will reportedly miss out on voice input capabilities.

Despite the LG G3 screen resolution being premature teased, the display’s overall size is still a mystery.

Last year’s flagship LG G2 wowed us with its 5.2-inch Full HD display which was further enhanced by a heavily reduced, almost bezel-free design. If the Korean manufacturer could manage a similar feat with a WQHD panel we think the company could finally break into the smartphone elite.

Far from the first time the phone has been teased, earlier this week reports emerged suggesting the LG G3 would land with a dust and water resistant coating similar to that found on the Sony Xperia Z2.

Further LG G3 rumours to have done the rounds recently include the introduction of a new 13-megapixel camera and the addition of an integrated fingerprint scanner – the latest smartphone trend following. It is believed the phone will be announced in July, months after its flagship rivals hit retailers.

I don't see the point in such a high resolution on a small screen, it'll just waste even more battery life on pixels no one can see......

Sony Experia Z2 doesn't have the Water and Dust proof, if I am not mistaken. It is the Samsung Galaxy S5 that is water and dust resistant.

It's sad. I wish they got rid of the finger print scanner and added even more power to the phone.

Very much like to see a 2k display on the LG G3. This will only fuel the fire and force Samsung, Sony and maybe HTC to release their respective next gen devices even earlier. Sony's mobile division CEO has stated that its product cycle will now be 6 months instead of 12 too, I assume play catchup, or simply flood the market with new and exciting tech across multiple price points.
Whatever the strategy, I want more from my new flagship device.

It is good to see other companies finally join the high end mobile devices.
Apple lost their innovation and passed by Samsung. Now, Samsung has taken too long in celebrating their success and has become slow to innovate further and now gets overtaken by Sony & LG.

Xperia Z2 will be the Spec Leader when it comes out and then LG G3 will follow suit (or even better in some areas). Apple is already a bit too far left behind and Samsung should wake up now before the gap getting bigger.

Sony Xperia Z2 has the Built-in Radio Hardware, 3GB RAM, Stereo Speakers, 3200 mAh Battery, Noise Cancelling headphones, Level 8 Waterproofing, 20.7 MPixel Camera, Premium Finish Product.

These are the specs that make many people suddenly talk about Sony mobile phone.

And many people may talk about LG too very soon.
