LG G3 Lollipop update hits the UK

The LG G3 Lollipop update has started rolling out in the UK, assuming your handset is tied to Vodafone that is.

With the Android 5.0 patch having hit G3 handsets in Poland last month, the eagerly awaited software update has started filtering out to UK-based devices in recent days.

However, although the QHD display packing LG G3 is available to buy through a number of networks – as well on a SIM-free basis – the G3 Lollipop update is exclusively available to Vodafone customers at present.

We have contacted LG for a timeframe of when other networks will start offering the G3 Lollipop update and will update this post accordingly when we know more.

Announced alongside the Nexus 6 back in late September, Android 5.0 Lollipop is a comprehensive update to Google’s dominant mobile OS.

From the new Material design to refreshes of the notifications menu, email systems, an improved battery management system and 64-bit CPU support, Lollipop brings updates and improvements across the board.

Despite being restricted to a single network at present, the G3’s Lollipop update is the first such patch for a flagship phone outside of Google’s ‘Nexus’ range.

Speaking with TrustedReviews last month, LG suggested its past relationship with Google had helped it gain the update edge over its rivals.

“We will definitely be one of the first vendors to introduce Lollipop to our flagship device,” Shaun Musgrave, LG’s Product Marketing Manager told us.

He added: “Because we have a good relationship with Google – and bearing in mind we have two previous devices with them – naturally we would get the ASOP a little earlier than most.

“That’s one of the reasons [we’re able to get the update out so quickly].”

The LG G3 was voted the TrustedReviews Phone of the Year for 2014.
