LG has officially confirmed that its next flagship smartphone will be called the LG G2, dropping the Optimus branding entirely.

The LG Optimus G follow up has been officially named the LG G2 and will be unveiled by the South Korean electronics manufacturer on August 7 in New York.

Completely rebranding its top-end range of smartphones as the “new ‘G’ premium brand”, any forthcoming devices won’t have the Optimus name, while any already on the market will retain the naming.

“Our vision is to make LG’s newest G devices synonymous with excellence, raising the bar even further for the ultimate in user experience”, said Dr. Jong-seok Park, CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications. “The new G2 will build upon the excellent reputation established by previous G series products.”

Within the LG G2 announcement, LG also hints to future smartphones packing 4:3 displays that will fall under the LG Vu series.

LG G2 Features
Launching on August 7, LG has already confirmed the LG G2 will run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU. This means it will be around 75 per cent better performance wise than the LG Optimus G and rivals running the Snapdragon S4 Pro like the Google Nexus 4 and Sony Xperia Z.

The latest rumours suggest that Qualcomm quad-core processor will be clocked at 2.3GHz with 2GB of RAM.

It is said to have a 5.2-inch display, which could be the world’s thinnest Full HD panel unveiled by LG earlier this month. The LG G2 is stet to be a super-slim device so thin that LG has had to move the volume rocker to the rear of the device below the camera.

Potentially packing a 2,540mAh battery, the LG G2 should have a 13-megapixel camera in the rear and should run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

TrustedReviews will be at the LG event in New York on August 7 to bring you all the LG G2 news as it is announced.
